The club was a blur of neon sweat and the heavy, rhythmic thumping of bass that vibrated in my marrow. Everything felt tilted. The gin had long since turned my blood into liquid fire, making the world slide sideways every time I blinked.

I remember the heat of the crowd, the smell of expensive perfume clashing with the scent of cigarettes, and then, I remember him.

He was a shadow in the corner of the VIP lounge, a dark shadow that seemed to swallow the light.
